Public posts: for the wider Van Vibe community
By default, starting a new post will be shared publicly.
This means that everybody in the Van Vibe community will be able to see your posts, like them and comment on them.
These posts are ideal for sharing your posts with others in order to share some of your favourite camping spots, inspire others with some self-builds or DIY projects or make the lessons you’ve learned publicly known.
However, as with any public post, it pays to be careful with the details you share. Never share your exact location and only share your region after you have already left the area.
And don’t be surprised that, if after your post, the area might be just a little more crowded next time you visit!
Private posts: just for you
The other option when posting to Van Vibe is to keep your posts private.
This means that you, and just you, can see the post.
Why would you want to do this?
Well, Van Vibe isn’t just a social sharing app. You can also use it as a travel journal, posting the memories of every day on your trip.
That way, the app can help you track all your thoughts, the costs of your journey, and a note of some of your favourite locations that you want to keep to yourself.
Because nobody can see these details, you can save the exact the coordinates and details of things like costs that you would rather not make public.
How to share safely and securely
Sharing your thoughts, your photos and your memories with the wider community is an amazing part of the vanlife community.
However, as with any social media platform, being careful about the details that you share can be important.
Staying safe while on the road is important, because letting people know exactly where you are and when you’re there.
When you want to share your photos and thoughts, here are some tips to share safely:
- Never post while you’re still on the campsite to keep yourself safe.
- Never give details about the length or duration of your trip as it could indicate your home is empty while you are out.
- Share wider areas rather than dropping pins on your exact location and sharing those details.
It also pays off to review exactly who is following you and who can see your posts. Blocking users that you don’t want to share details with can be helpful as well.
You can change these follower settings at any time, should you want to update this at a later date.
